Choosing a first dance song is an important decision; it’s a melody that will forever remind you of your special day. Some couples, their choice is easy because they already have “their song”. For others, the process can be overwhelming with so many options to consider.
Don’t stress! Like everything else about your wedding, the first dance should be about the couple and having the best night of your life. So let’s dive into how to find the perfect song that reflects your unique love story!

Finding Inspiration for Your First Dance
As mentioned above, some songs just naturally have a special place in your heart, making the decision easy. Perhaps it’s the song that was playing in the background of your first date or a song that you both sing along to every time it comes on in the car. Many couples choose songs that have personal significance to them and evoke memories of a meaningful moment, while others choose to pick a song that will fit the theme of their wedding. Ultimately, most couples pick a song that conveys a message about love. Whether the song is slow and romantic or upbeat and fun, the kye is to make sure you are having a good time dancing the night away.

Practical Picks
If you are having a live band, make sure you ask them if they can perform the song you have chosen as your first dance. Not only should they be able to play the song, but their rendition should align to your vision. Many bands have most first dance songs in their repertoire, but if you’re choosing something unconventional, make sure they are familiar with the song or are willing to learn before your wedding. If the band cannot play your song, consider if you would be okay with just having the song played over the speakers.

Creating Meaningful Musical Moments
As a kid, I loved Taylor Swift’s “Our Song” and dreamed one day I would have a special song with my significant other too. While that never quite happened for us, it’s okay! You man be in the same boat and let me tell you, you don’t need a preexisting special song. Your first dance song can now become that cherished tune – one to remember for years to come. The hope is every time you hear the music, you can be transported back in time to the night of your wedding.
