Your wedding is one of the biggest days of your life, and you may want to hire a makeup artist to help you look and feel your best! With so many makeup artists to choose from, how do you find the one that’s perfect for you? Here are a few tips to guide your search!

First and foremost, you are the bride and your preferences matter the most! You can start by envisioning the look you want. Do you prefer a soft, natural style or are you drawn to a full glam look with bold colors? Once you have a clear vision, you can search for an artist whose work complements your style.

Next, do your homework. You want to make sure you hire someone who delivers quality work. I recommend looking at the artist’s portfolio and reviewing their previous clients. Check if they have worked with multiple clients who achieved the style you are aiming for. Also, pay attention to whether they have experience with different skin tones. Do they know how to work with your shade and skin type? A picture is worth a thousand words!

Additionally consider, how the makeup photographs. Do you like how your makeup looks in pictures? A true professional will not only meet your expectations but also ensure you look flawless both on and off camera.

Now that you’ve found artists you like, it’s time to reach out and check their availability. If they are available for your big day, be sure to ask the following questions:

• What brands of makeup do you use? If you have sensitive skin, it’s important to know that the artist carries brands that work for you. For example, I prefer lightweight makeup, but everyone has different preferences!
• Can you handle a large party? If you’d like to include your bridesmaids in the getting ready process, make sure the artist can accommodate your group (large or small(. While you don’t have to cover the cost of everyone’s makeup, it’s good to make sure the artist is able to attend to everybody.
• Will you create a schedule for the day of? Having a timeline helps everyone keep on time, including your coordinator. You want to ensure no one misses their turn and that you aren’t running behind.
• How much do you charge? Discussing prices can feel uncomfortable, but it’s important to keep your budget in mind when selecting a makeup artist. They may charge additional fees including travel! Make sure you know what all is included in the price you are paying for.
