Being a bridesmaid is an exciting and rewarding experience, but what exactly does it involve? Depending on the couple and wedding style, bridesmaids often play key roles in various aspects of the celebration. Above all, their most important responsibility is to support the couple throughout the journey. Here are some meaningful ways bridesmaids can lend a hand.
Duties Before the Wedding
Before the wedding, it’s a great idea to create a group chat with all the other bridesmaids. This will give everyone a chance to introduce themself and get to know each other better. This group chat is going to be a valuable tool to communicate throughout the wedding planning process. In the group chat, you can discuss plans for events like the hen party, bachelorette trip, and even offer advice on bridesmaid dresses.
If you are invited to join the bride for dress shopping, it’s important to be honest while still supporting her vision. If she asks you to attend, she values your opinion. Make sure your feedback is constructive, not just critical. For example, instead of saying “Satin doesn’t look good on you” try saying “I think the lace suited you better”. This approach shows you are being thoughtful and encouraging while still offering helpful input.
In the days leading up to the wedding, see if you can take a few extra days off so you can help the couple with any last minute changes. The couple also may assign you specific tasks for the big day. Be sure to prioritize these responsibilities! These tasks could range from helping with DIY projects, keeping certain guests in line, learning a choreographed dance or even delivering a speech. Whatever the assignment, your role is to support the couple and ensure they are happy.

Overall, being a bridesmaid can be really fun! Remember this list is meant for a team; don’t try to do it all yourself. If the couple only has a maid of honor; see if other close friends or family wouldn’t mind helping out with a task or two, Above all, remember you are there for the couple; just as you will want them to be there for you on your big day!
